IMG_0200.JPG

Below are pictures of New Travellers living a mobile lifestyle in 2022. The text is some of their thoughts on living nomadically in the UK today and about the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act.

Note: The text does not necessarily correspond to the photographs, some quotes are from people not photographed, and some photographs do not correspond to any of the text.

"There have always been Travellers in this country and there will always be Travellers here"

"Someone complained about us being near their village so they gave us a day to leave, they can do that now"

"I don't really know much about it..."

"There wasn't enough of us to keep resisting evictions so we had to rent a yard in the end"

New Traveller activism against the Policing Bill and PSPOs

New Travellers and van dwellers campaign against Mendip Council's introduction of a Public Space Protection Order which would outlaw mobile lifestyles in their area of Somerset.

Glastonbury Spring Fayre 2022

First and second generation New Traveller families and friends march against the Policing Bill.

London, January 2022.

Photographs of their lifestyle enlarged on placards were carried on the march with the intention of raising cultural visibility.

These placards can be seen above the crowds sitting in parliament square.
